Here goes the classic "about me" copy. I know you're just itching to read it....hope I didn't say "I" too much.......
Kid Life & Elementary
I was raised in a single-parent home on the east-side of Flint. Luckily mom did a good job of keeping me out of trouble given our location. I’ve always loved to draw. I was actually awarded an exclusive art scholarship to the Flint Institute of Arts for the summer during my 6th grade year at Williams Elementary. That’s when I realized I had a talent for this art thing.
Highschool + Work
In the 10th grade I took a web design course at the G.A.S.C. (aka “Skill Center”) and completed the course at the top of my class with a 4.0 GPA. I soon started my first job bussing tables at a great little restaurant called Grandma’s Recipes. During my senior year I began designing for The Uncommon Sense newspaper, as well as kicking off my freelance design services. I graduated from MMC with high distinction, four college courses under my belt, and my beautiful wife Holly by my side.
More Work...
Bussing tables gets pretty old after three years. Luckily I was offered a full time job by a customer that noticed my work ethic. So for a while I worked as quality control inspector for a label supplier to the auto industry. After a year or so I moved up to a label printing press operator, and finally to a “purchasing control and logistics specialist” – I basically scheduled production jobs, verified stock, sat/stood in meetings all day, and acted as the main communication for customer service reps concerning production schedules.
Design and Today
As my design portfolio grew through my work with the newspaper and many freelance jobs that came my way, it was finally time to find a new job as a full time designer. That pushes my little story up to December 2006, when I was hired as a Graphic Designer by a swimming pool supply company. All I can say is wow. The work environment here is so different from what I have experience in the past, plus I’m actually doing work that I love!
Today I live in Flint with my wife Holly, and two year old son Jericho. We’re also expecting a little girl around the end of August, so stay tuned for new baby pictures.
I currently work full-time as a graphic designer for Quality Pool Supply. As you already know I work from home as a freelance designer, and I’m also the copy editor for graphicdefine.com.
